Despite the denunciation by several associations of the deterioration of human rights in this country, Reckya Madougou’s detention is not an isolated case of a prisoner of conscience. A CRIET judge was forced to flee Benin after declaring that Madame Madougou’s arrest and imprisonment had been requested by the powers that be.

The request for release filed by his lawyers on July 12 was rejected by the examining magistrate, who argued that further questioning and confrontation were necessary…

Mario Stasi: “There is absolutely nothing, either in the investigation file, or in the existence of obvious guarantees of representation, to justify this detention, which is moreover humiliating; the judicial treatment of Madame Madougou is unworthy of a democracy!

RECKYA MADOUGOU: HUMILIATING AND UNFOUNDED INCARCERATION

Despite the grievances put forward by several associations on the deterioration of human rights in Benin, the detention of Reckya Madougou is not a standalone case of prisoner of conscience. Notably, one judge of the CRIET had to escape Benin for having declared that the arrest and incarceration of Mrs. Madougou were commissioned by the established power.

The request for her release filed by her lawyers on July12th has been rejected by the investigating magistrate on the grounds that proceeding to further interrogatories and confrontations was necessary…

Mario Stasi: “Absolutely nothing, whether it is inside the investigation file, or the existence of guarantees of legal representation, justifies this detention, extremely humiliating, the judicial treatment of Mrs. Madougou is unworthy of a so-called democracy!”

We are at your disposal to put you in contact with Mario Stasi.
